If it ain't broke don't fix it ...

Here is a comment I added to a SportingNews Article:

It is unbelievable that there is talk of D'Antoni getting fired. What a joke?! Here is a recent coach of the year, with a phenomenal record in both the regular and post season, who has brought a resurgence to the league with a fun fast-paced style.

How many of those kinds of coaches are available? How many coaches that are available have been fired by someone else for under-performing?

It is crazy. I would love for the Suns to have won the championship but only 1 team wins the championship each year. Frankly, I would rather have a team that is competitive every year, that players want to come and play on, then a team that wins a title then implodes (like Miami).

As for D'Antoni's supposed offensive style not working ... Jerry Sloan is a great coach that has never won a title. The Jazz are competitive year in, and year out. He is a defensive coach, but he has never won a title. Does that mean his defensive style doesn't win championships?

The reality is that the Suns still have a lot of growing to do. That includes D'Antoni. He is learning as a coach, just like the players are learning. This year the Shaq trade was huge. They showed glimpses of how well that could work, but ultimately they are still figuring it out. I loved having Marion on the Suns but the reality was that he didn't want to stay a Sun and would have left anyway.

Adding Shaq was big from a team chemistry perspective, added excitement again to the fan base, and provided a big tool to use against the bigs of the west. He did a great job on Duncan for most of the series. Lots of people are crying for the Suns to be better defensively and in many ways they were better defensively. It was offensively that they struggled.

Anyway, here is hoping the fans, the team management, and D'Antoni take a deep breath and recognize what they have, and don't be hasty to try to grab for something else, because the downside is a whole lot bigger than the upside. If it ain't broke don't fix it ... and it ain't broke!
